May 7, 2011 – eWaste Recycling Event | Nassau Bay

The Johnson Space Center Contractors (JSC) Environmental Partnership hosted a Spring eWaste Recycling Event.  Folks around the bay area brought in every kind of electronic equipment and gadgets, some were familiar while others left you scratching your head trying to figure out what they were but all were being collected by volunteers to save our environment.

Toxins of all sorts are contained in our modern day conveniences.  Cell phones, CRTs, computers, digital cameras and TVs are all pieces of modern day conveniences that none of us want to live without but the dilemma comes when they break or are replaced…what do you do with them?  Proper eWaste Recycling is the answer.  Through this event, with the help from Sims Recycling Solutions, all materials collected are handled securely, traceably and help protect and sustain the environment.

To the dozens of volunteers that gave up their Saturday, we’d like to express a very big Thank You for caring!  Listen in as Talk of the Bay visits with Kevin Evans, of SIMS Recycling Solutions, as he explains the recycling process.  Check out the pics…

For future reference:
Examples of accepted material, both working and non-working, include: Personal computers, Monitors and flat panel displays, Printers, All-in-Ones, Scanners, Digital cameras, Handheld computers, Cords, digital entertainment and telecommunications equipment (VCRs, cell phones, portable music devices)

Unacceptable items include:  Major appliances including microwave ovens, TVs, washers, dryers.  Also, equipment containing radioactive materials, free-flowing liquids, chlorofluorocarbons, polychlorinated biphenyls or other “hazardous wastes”.
