  Galveston: A City on Stilts

In 2007 the Galveston County Historical Museum hosted an exhibit entitled A City on Stilts. This exhibit was one of the most popular exhibits ever held at the museum. In response, curators Jodi Wright-Gidley and Jennifer Marines have now authored and published a book by the same title. The story of Galveston’s reconstruction after the Great Storm of September 8, 1900, is captured in the book. The Great Storm was a hurricane that killed 6,000 people and remains the worst natural disaster in U.S. history. City on Stilts, has been released nationwide and contains 200 vintage photographs from the Zeva B. Edworthy collection that document the rebuilding of the port city and life around Galveston in the early 1900s. listen in with Talk of the Bay...
